USN SL
Naval Air Station Miramar
Uniforms
In use by commissioned officers (O-1 through O-10) and chiefs (W-2 through W-5 and E-7 through E-9) the service khaki is the basic service uniform in the USN SL. This uniform is usually referred to as simply "service uniform". The service uniform is worn all year round for office work, watch-standing, liberty or business ashore when prescribed as uniform of the day.
Insignia is worn on the collar of the uniform to denote rank. Garrison caps are worn squarely on the head with fore and aft crease centered vertically between the eyebrows and the lowest point approximately one inch above the eyebrows. Breast insignia is worn by personnel who have achieved specific qualifications in one or more prescribed areas; they are commonly referred to as "warfare pins". Medal ribbons are also worn on the breast. Both go on the left hand side. Right hand side is reserved for the name tag. Commissioned officers and chiefs may also use the khaki combination cap or visor as a more formal option to the garrison cap. Shoes are black. Naval Aviators sometimes wear brown shoes.

Use the OUTFITS feature to create all your USN SL uniform sets in order to quickly switch versions in case of need. Start ALL your USN SL outfits with the same words or acronyms. We recommend using a special character followed by a space and the acronyms USN SL followed by the uniform type and ending with that type's variation.

Modifications you will need to do
- Combination cap, visor
1. Adjust the combination cap or visor to your head and hair style. To achieve this, make a COPY of the original item and ADD it to the outfit. Make sure that you have "Stretch Textures" checked on the edit window. For best results and more flexibility in adjustments uncheck "Stretch Both Sides" on the edit window so you can resize each side, top and bottom separately. Once you are satisfied with the size and placement of the combination cap or visor remove it from you so the changes you made are saved for that copy. Find it in your inventory and if not in the appropriate folder move it there. Then ADD it again to your outfit for the next steps.
2. Replace the simulated navy insignia by the USN insignia you were given. To achieve this edit the combination cap or visor, check "Edit Face" on the edit window and click on the insignia face. Drag and drop the USN insignia to the edit window texture square.
3. If you are not a grade 05 or above commissioned officer you will need to render invisible the gold branches on the combination cap, visor. To achieve this, edit the combination cap or visor, check "Edit Face" on the edit window and select each of the gold branch faces. Then make then 100% invisible. All senior chiefs need to do this as well.
4. Remove the combination cap or visor and ADD it again to your outfit.
- Dog Tags
1. ADD the dog tags to your outfit. Edit them and select "Edit Face" from the edit menu. Select the dog tag faces (where the fictitious "Avatar" name is) and drag the textures with your info onto the texture square in the edit texture window. Remove dog tags and ADD them again to the outfit.
- Garrison cap
1. Adjust the garrison cap to your head and hair style. To
achieve this, make a COPY of the original item and ADD it to the outfit.
Make sure that you have "Stretch Textures" checked on the edit window.
For best results and more flexibility in adjustments uncheck "Stretch
Both Sides" on the edit window so you can resize each side, top and
bottom separately. Once you are satisfied with the size and placement of
the garrison cap remove it from you so the changes you made
are saved for that copy. Find it in your inventory and if not in the
appropriate folder move it there. Then ADD it again to your outfit for
the next steps.
2.Replace the pin that comes with the cap by the ones given to you. To achieve this, rez on the ground the garrison cap you adjusted to your head and hair style as described above, edit it and select "Edit Parts" from the edit window. Select the pin on the cap (usually a CAPT. rank pin that is standard on the uniform out of the box) and choose "Unlink". Delete the isolated pin. Rez the linked pins given to you next to the cap. Move the pins into position - Officers: Rank on the right side of the cap (screen left side) and USN Officer insignia on the left side of the cap (screen right side). Chiefs: USN chief insignia on the left side of the cap (screen right side). Once the pins/pin are in position select them/it and the garrison cap and choose "Link". Remember when you rez a copy item the one you chose from the inventory is still there so you may want to delete that copy before taking the one you just added the pins to back to inventory. Once in the inventory, make sure it is in the correct folder and ADD to outfit.
- Belt
1. ADD the khaki belt you were given to your outfit. Edit it and choose "Edit Linked Parts" from the edit window. Move the camera inside your body to find the small cube root prim that attaches the belt to your pelvis. Press "SHIFT" key to deselect the root prim and proceed to adjust the belt. This makes the attachment point remain centered on your pelvis, allowing the belt a better fit when you are moving. When you are satisfied, exit edit mode, remove the belt and ADD it again to the outfit.
- Collar rank pins
1. ADD the rank pins you were given to your outfit. They will show in the approximate correct spot but you will need to adjust them to your collar. To achieve this edit the pins, select "Edit linked parts" on the edit window and adjust each pin individually. Do not unlink. Once they are correctly positioned remove and ADD to the outfit again.
NOTE: With each promotion you will receive a set of textures with the new rank, among which the new collar pins. This way you will not need to readjust the pins as they are in place already. You will update the textures only using the same method described above in number 2 of the modifications for the combination cap.
- Name tag
1. Name tags are all the same standard size and they go over your chest right pocket. ADD the name tag you were given to the outfit. It will show in the approximate correct spot but you will need to adjust. Adjust position to fit your chest. Remove it from yourself and ADD it again to the outfit.
- Chief rank arm patch (chiefs only)
1. Chief rank patches are all the same standard size and they go on the side of your upper left arm. ADD the chief rank patch you were given to the outfit. It will show in the approximate correct spot but you will need to adjust. Adjust position to fit your chest. Remove it from yourself and ADD it again to the outfit.
- Optional skirt
1. The skirt will be white in its original form. You will need to make a copy of it and ADD it to your outfit. Edit it and go to the color picker window. Using the HEX values (to the right of RGB and LSL tabs on the top left of the color picker) replace the HEX # there with c4b490 for Khaki. Once the color applied, click "OK", exit edit mode, remove the khaki skirt and ADD it again to the outfit.
Once you are done, you can now save both versions of the service khaki uniform.
Use the a naming convention similar to the one explained at the top of this article.
